Becoming neighbors

'Becoming Neighbors' was an artistic intervention that explored the potential neighboring qualities of museal spaces. It took place at the atrium of Martin Gropius Bau and was initiated by the first neighbor in residence hn. lyonga. It was an open exchange and an active performative approach to reclaiming and opening up a space to the absent – and questioning how the permeability of institutional spaces can be made visible. Bridging the gap between literal neighbouring and the relationship between neighbourhoods as a metaphor, the activities of this collective intervention explored how our encounters are actively structured and produced by our everyday ways of relating.
During the research period, we wrote essayistic bits on our understanding of "neighborhood," which I assembled in this document. Each text can be cut out and used as a bookmark.
