Parkour in Pankow

Parkour in Pankow is a project by MESTIZX, a Berlin-based collective of artists from diverse backgrounds. They engage with the layered narratives and cultural capital that emerge from the meeting of varied identities. In 2021, an open call invited Pankow residents to participate in multiple formats. I contributed to a sound composition that could eventually become an audiowalk. The aim was to invite listeners and walkers to perceive their neighborhood anew—to tune into its soundscape and notice subtle treasures, as well as its imperfections. The material used was derived from interviews MESTIZX artists conducted with willing participants and passers-by from Pankow. It was striking to observe the multitude of dreams and fantasies people attach to their streets, and the narratives shaped through walking, observing, and listening.
